Page numbers can only be set in the CEWE PHOTOBOOK. The "Configure page numbers..." icon can be found in the toolbar. You can switch page numbers on or off for all inside pages by means of the checkmark in front of "Show number of pages".
The following page number formats are available:
Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3, ...)
Lower case Roman numerals (i, ii, iii, ...)
Upper case Roman numerals (I, II, III, ...)
Lower case letters (a, b, c, ...) and
Upper case letters (A, B, C, ...).
The text for the page number defaults to "%". The percent sign is a placeholder for the page number and must not be deleted; you can define the rest of the text freely.
You can set the distance between the page number and the edge horizontally and vertically from 0 to 50 mm. It is also possible to set a "Background colour" for the text box of the page number.
The following settings apply to the arrangement of page numbers on pages:

The text formatting for the page numbering allows the usual definition of font, font size and font style (bold and italics), as well as the colour of the text. You can also enable or disable font outlines of various thicknesses and colours, and a variety of background colours for the page numbers.
The text preview shows you the effects of your settings.
You can reduce the number of pages in your CEWE PHOTOBOOK by clicking in the product specifications (in the bottom right of the software or the icon in the toolbar). You can now reduce or increase the number of pages by eight at a time. Please note that there is a minimum and maximum number of pages for each selected CEWE PHOTOBOOK.
The CEWE PHOTOBOOK software offers a wide range of predefined page layouts. You can invoke and select these models under the “Page layout” tab. (Selection based on number of photos per page). Highlight the selected page layout (click left mouse button) and add this page layout to the CEWE PHOTOBOOK. There are also function keys below these page layout templates which you can choose from. For the sake of clarity and so that you can maintain a consistent page layout style in your CEWE PHOTOBOOK, the page layouts are now sorted into categories.
Under the page layouts you have the following buttons available for the inside pages:
You can add another predefined page layout by clicking in the selection area on "Page Layout", selecting a new page layout and just draghing it to the page.Or click on the top tool bar on the "Next layout suggestion" icon. This loads the next saved layout with the same number of photos.Or change the page layout manually by moving photo placeholders, resizing them or adding new placeholders or deleting existing ones.
Yes, you can save your own layouts in the software. For this you select a photo placeholder on the page which you want to save and click on “Save layout” in the toolbar in the layout section. Now this custom page layout is saved directly in the main category page layouts. It is also marked by a green star. This enables you to recognise your own page layouts easily. They are also available in the page layout category under "My layouts".You can then use your own layouts in other CEWE PHOTOBOOKS. You can only ever save your own layouts for a single page in the CEWE PHOTOBOOK, not a double page.
Yes. Firstly, the precise size of the placeholder will be displayed as a tool tip when scaling.Secondly, you can state the precise size (and the position and rotation) of the selected placeholder or multiple placeholders by means of the "Position object (size, position and rotation)" function. Thirdly, you can assign the same size to all selected placeholders by means of the "Align size of objects" function. This size is determined by the first selected placeholder. Finally, you can use a grid for better control of the sizes of the placeholders.
| Tip: If you wish to use the set size of a placeholder for additional photos, select the placeholder and click the “New photo” button in the main toolbar. The newly inserted placeholder will have precisely the same size as the previously selected frame. This makes it very easy for you to display your photos in the same size in the CEWE PHOTOBOOK. The process can be repeated without any restrictions. |
The placeholders can partly overlap and cover each other. You can control the order in which the frames lie on top of each other, i.e. which frame is in the foreground and which is in the background of the page layout, by using the commands "Move object one level forward" and "Move object one level back" (as icons in the toolbar). Text frames are always in the foreground and can be moved around but never behind a photo.
First:
You have enabled on the "Automatic layout adjustment" function. When you insert a new placeholder in a product page, or remove an existing placeholder, the software automatically uses the saved layout which most closely fits the (new) number of photos on the page, in order to achieve the best distribution of placeholders. If no matching layout is available, the software will display a message to this effect. You can switch this behaviour on and off by means of the corresponding icon in the toolbar.
Second:
In the “Behaviour when inserting pictures" program options, you have the option “Change layout framework so that picture optimally fills frame. This adjusts the placeholder to the photo's aspect ratio. The longest side of the photo is scaled optimally into the frame. If you do not want that to happen, switch on the "Maintain frame size, crop and centre the photo" option.
Select the desired page layout in the page layout selection and click the function key "add layout to all interior pages" directly below the page layout selection. If you just want to have blank pages in the photobook so that you can design each page individually, then take a page layout with 0 images.
Yes, you can delete your own layouts but firstly you will have to put them in Trash. In the Page Layout section on the left you will see an icon button labelled "Place object in Trash" directly underneath the displayed page layout. It is on the far right of this selection; Trash can then be emptied.
No, the page layouts provided cannot be edited. However, edited versions of most page layouts can usually be found in the preview.
Layouts are only ever viewed for a single page of the CEWE PHOTOBOOK. That means it is not possible to produce and save a double-page layout.
| Tip: Design your own layout for a double page and save it by saving both the left and right pages as your own layouts. You can then insert these layouts again on other double pages correspondingly on the right and left pages. It is also possible to put a placeholder across both pages of a double page. The placeholder will then be saved with the layout of the page on which its centre is located. |
Use the key combination "Ctrl" + "D" and the entire contents of the current page (layout including clipart, frames, photos, texts, etc.) are duplicated on the next page. There is also the option to copy photos, texts or entire page layouts onto another page using the "copy" and "paste" functions. You can either use the icon buttons in the tool selection for the editing tools or the key commands Ctrl+C ("C" for Copy) and Ctrl+V ("V" corresponds to an arrow icon for "Paste" and is located conveniently next to "V" on the keyboard). Select the content that you wish to copy and then paste it to your desired location.
CEWE PHOTOBOOK pages can only be moved as double pages spreads. In the scaled-down preview of the CEWE PHOTOBOOK (the storyboard), click the corresponding double page, hold the left mouse button down and move the double page to the desired position. Both designed and empty double pages can be moved in this way.
You will find the “Backgrounds” in the object selection area.In the selection field in this area you can filter the backgrounds by theme. You can insert a background across the entire double page by double-clicking the thumbnail in the object selection. It should appear across both pages. If you want it to appear on a right or left page only, just click on the thumbnail and drag it to the corresponding page. There are additional insertion buttons which can be found at the bottom in the toolbar for selecting objects. If the background is to appear on all pages, you do not need to repeat the insertion for every page. Corresponding commands are available via the dropdown menu (right-click the thumbnail). If no background is inserted on the page, the page background remains white.
The software contains a small selection of our CEWE PHOTOBOOK backgrounds, which you can supplement with additional backgrounds. The process is as follows:
The backgrounds can then be called up in the selection area under "Backgrounds". They can be found in the relevant category.
| Please note that it is not possible to save the background images from the preview on your computer and use them as background images by right-clicking "Save picture as...". A background image saved in this way would not have sufficient resolution for a CEWE PHOTOBOOK and would inevitably produce a poor result. |
These are only thumbnails to be viewed on a screen. The high-resolution background images for printing are used in production. When the order is placed, the production site is only given the reference of the high-resolution original picture. On the basis of this reference a high-resolution data file is extracted and printed in production. This process avoids large data volumes being used in the installation of the software and in the placing of the order.
In the toolbar for selecting objects, (below the thumbnails for the photos) you will find the "Image as background on both pages", "Image as background on left" and "Image as background on right" icon buttons. Using these tools you can place the currently selected picture as a background across the entire double page or the right or left page of your CEWE PHOTOBOOK. Unlike the supplied backgrounds, the photo inserted as a background can be selected and edited using the photoshow. That means you can edit it later and adjust the colour and brightness or use a picture effect.
1st method: Select the photo on the page and press the Delete key on your keyboard. 2nd method: Simply select a different background for the page. This can be a background from the software or your own photo.
Backgrounds included in the software cannot be edited.
| Tip: If you produce and design backgrounds with your own photos, they can be edited individually. |
This is only possible when using your own photos as a background. You have the opportunity to edit your photos using the "PHOTO SHOW" feature. You can also find the "Soft focus" tool in the "Edit" tool selection. You can use the slider controls to fade the photo to white or to produce a blurring effect. Confirm the steps by clicking "OK" and the program will now convert the data. Important: This does not change the original data!
You can now place this edited photo directly into the CEWE PHOTOBOOK using the "Back" button.
| Tip: Try the "Background Image" tool (which can also be found under in the "Edit" tool selection). This is a special photo effect that prepares your photo to be used as a discreet background image. The "Background Image" effect is actually a "Soft focus" with standard values set by default. |
In the "Preview and insertion control" (below the thumbnails for the photos) you will find the "Image as background on both pages", "Image as background left" and "Image as background right" icon buttons. Using these tools you can place the currently selected picture as a background across the whole current double page or the current right or left page of your CEWE PHOTOBOOK. You will also find the "Image as background on all pages", "Image as background on all left pages" and "Image as background on all right pages" icon button. Using these tools you can place the currently selected picture as a background across all double pages or all right or left pages of your CEWE PHOTOBOOK.
The software includes a small selection of our designs, which you can supplement with additional design packages. The process is as follows:
The designs can then be called up in the selection area under "Designs". They can be found in the relevant category.
Would you like to create a collage designed by the software using your images? Firstly, select the CEWE PHOTOBOOK page on which you wish to produce the collage. Now, on the left in the selection area, select the photos you want to include in the collage by highlighting them. With the right mouse button, now select the "Highlighted photos as collage" command. You can decide whether the collage will be placed on the left or right page of the book or on the double page. This command produces a collage of the selected photos. The size and position of the photos are adjusted automatically. You can run the command several times in a row until you are pleased with the result.
|
Note: |
Or you can set the page layout selection to "Full coverage" and select a layout that you like. You will then have better control of the result. Afterwards you can move the photos within their placeholder or swap them by dragging a photo to another placeholder.
An image mask (previously referred to as a "mount") trims the photo into a specific shape like a stencil. Depending on the stencil chosen, the edges of the photo can be clearly defined or fade softly into the background.
Example masks:

A frame is a combination of an image mask and a clipart.
Example frames:

In the selection options, you can choose from a dropdown list containing the various mask and frame categories. You can drag a mask or frame from the selection area onto the desired photo or the corresponding placeholder in the workspace. The effect is immediately visible.
You can use a mask to give shape to your photos. Parts of the picture are covered by a template. (They become "transparent".) It is a very simple but effective way of changing the shape of your photos, producing picture collages or allowing photos to merge into one another by means of transitions.
Unfortunately, masks cannot be edited.
You can download additional masks and frames, clipart, styles and backgrounds from the internet by clicking the red "Download more..." button. They are installed automatically and available immediately.
The CEWE PHOTOBOOK software provides you with a help grid for the precise positioning of your photos. In the layout section in the toolbar, click the grid button. A help grid then appears which can be used to improve the positioning of the placeholders. The placeholders lock onto the crossing points of the help grid. The grid will not affect the finished product: it is not printed or developed. The line separations and the locking on the help grid are set in the "Settings" of the header under "Editor".
Photos that are too close to the edge of the page (depending on the product, the border will be 2 to 5 mm) are automatically pulled slightly over the edge. That helps to avoid "white space". A white space is a narrow gap between a photo and the edge of the page. It looks untidy, so photos should either be kept at a minimum distance from the edge of the page or should project slightly beyond the page. Such a projection, also known as trim, is removed when the pages are cut during production. In the "Settings" (see the chapter "Settings") go to “Photo Enhancements”, then choose "Automatically reposition photos and clipart when they are too near the edge?” function.
The following settings are available:-
The design objects (design, layouts, backgrounds, etc.) that you particularly like and use regularly can be saved in a "Favourites" category. Simply highlight the object you want to add and click on the preview display "Mark as Favourite". Your item is then marked with the Favourites icon; these are always listed first. Only objects marked as favourites are shown in the "Favourites" category. You can remove a Favourite with the "Remove from favourites" icon.
Design objects (designs, layouts, backgrounds, etc.) that you do not like and will never use can be placed in "Trash". Simply select the object(s) you want to remove, and in the preview display select "Place object in Trash." It is then no longer displayed in the preview. For safety reasons, the design element is not immediately deleted, but simply filed in "Trash". You can choose to restore an object at any time, or delete it forever.
